Baking Soda Clay Recipe

11 December 2012

This is the recipe for the lovely white clay that we were using at Imps today.

It is beautiful, easy to make and easy to to shape. We rolled ours out and used cutters to make tree decorations. Theses can be left to air-dry or gently cooked in a low oven. When it is dry glitter pens can draw on it, we’ve discovered!

1 cup of bicarbonate of soda

1/2 cup of cornflour

3/4 cup of warm water

I find it doesn’t matter what cup/mug/tub you use, just keep the proportions and it will work!!

Pop everything into a large saucepan, stir until well mixed.  Heat the pan, stirring away as the mixture starts to bubble and form lumps. Keep stirring! When the lumps have all come together and it looks like playdough, take it off the heat. Leave to cool for a few minutes, tip onto a board and knead a little.
